Paul's leadership skills, his knowledge of the environment and his experience in non-profit management will be great assets for SEA. Paul has degrees in forest ecology and water resources management from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York. He spent the first 12 years or so of his career working on environmental issues as a Peace Corps Volunteer, for the US Environmental Protection Agency, and with a private consulting firm working internationally. Starting in 1986, he turned to non-profit management, first as Executive Director of an animal welfare center in Ohio, and later as the Executive Director of the St. Croix Animal Welfare Organization. Since moving to St. Croix in 2002, Paul has also worked as the Director of the Eastern Caribbean Program at The Nature Conservancy, and as the Executive Director of St. Croix Landmarks Society.
Carol, formally trained as a RN, has resided on St. Croix since 1981 and has been involved with SEA since 1990. Prior to assuming her current position as SEA's Program Director, she served as SEA's Executive Director, Southgate Coastal Reserve Manager, and she headed the VI ReLeaf Program that successfully reintroduced red mangrove seedlings to the Sugar Bay area. Carol is an avid birder and environmentalist; her interests lie in the protection and preservation of St. Croix's natural habitats, especially wetland areas.
After taking a yearlong sabbatical in St. Croix, Lynnea Roberts landed on SEA's doorstep with a big smile and a mission to spread her enthusiasm for science. She earned her elementary education degree and middle school endorsement from the University of Wyoming in 1999 and a Master of Curriculum and Instruction, Technology Integration from Grand Canyon University in 2008. Her experience as a classroom teacher for eight years and love for the outdoors will be a definite asset to SEA's outreach education mission.
Carlene returned to St. Croix from Connecticut six years ago with her husband Ian. After 17 years of working as the fiscal officer at a homeless shelter in Hartford, Carlene thought her days of number crunching were over with her move to paradise. But the hours of her "dream job" of bartending turned out to be past her bedtime so she found her way back into the non-profit world. After two and a half years working as the fiscal officer at St. Croix Women's Coalition, she came to SEA in December of 2006. She worked as SEA's contract bookkeeper for two years and then joined as a staff member in January of 2009. As an avid cyclist she can be found riding the south shore every morning, and as a passionate gardener she's worked hard to change the ecosystem of her east end home from desert to jungle.
Linda is a former business owner who gained experience in fundraising through her involvement in establishing the St. Croix Montessori School at Golden Rock. Linda's goal is to expand SEA's membership base and financial support by making more people aware of the good work SEA is doing in the community. She feels that getting more people involved with SEA's programs and projects is the key to our financial success. Linda is a mother of four who is dedicated to preserving paradise for their benefit!
