Board of Directors

Dr. Ken Haines, Chair
Ken joined SEA's Board in 2008, bringing some important scientific expertise and local knowledge to the Board. Ken was trained as a botanist and marine biologist. He has lived on St. Croix for over 40 years, and during that time has worked for and provided consulting services to several of St. Croix's major industries.

Roger Hoss, Vice-Chair
Roger is an experienced local real estate developer and the manager of the newly announced Island Crossings Shopping Center located mid-island near HOVENSA. Roger is a long-time advocate of responsible and sustainable real estate development. He promotes the incorporation of green technologies, advance environmental impact planning, preservation of archeological treasures, and land conservation. Roger is an active supporter of SUCCEED, St. Croix Unity for Community, Culture, Environment and Economic Development. Roger is married with three young children. He has a B.S. in Business Finance from California State University at Sacramento. He enjoys boating, scuba diving, and hiking. Roger is active with his son in Boy Scouts and is an Eagle Scout himself.

Theo T. Broodie, CPA, Treasurer
Theo joined the board of directors of SEA in 2010, as its Treasurer. Theo has lived on St. Croix for the past six years. He is a Certified Public Accountant, and the managing member of his accounting firm Theo T. Broodie, CPA, PC. at Estate Mount Pleasant, St. Croix. Theo recently became a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). Theo looks forward to helping in the environmental endeavors of the US Virgins islands.

Jennifer Martin, Secretary
Jennifer has been a resident of St. Croix for 11 years and has been actively involved in giving back to the community. Jennifer is a full time new mom. Before taking time off to raise her daughter, Jennifer served as the Senior Management Consultant for Tropico Management, LP, a business consulting firm providing a variety of services, including health care administrative services, to clients in the States. Prior to arriving on St. Croix, Jennifer worked as an international educational volunteer in Ecuador. Jennifer has served on SEA's Board of Directors Executive Committee in the position of Secretary for the past 4 years.

Michael Baron
A resident of St. Croix for 38 years, Michael was a founding member of the St. Croix Environmental Association in 1986 and has been supporting SEA's advocacy since then. Active in focusing SEA's energies on upcoming issues facing St. Croix, he is working on Advocacy issues & defining proactive strategies to meet our varied challenges. By profession a graphic artist, Michael is using his experience in public relations and promotion to bring SEA's conservation message to a broader segment of the St. Croix community.

Chuck Fischer
Chuck joined the SEA Board in November 2008. He is a native Texan, but spent the early part of his career in western Canada, and later in Oklahoma, before retiring and moving to St. Croix in 2007. He has always had a strong interest in wildlife, and has degrees in Wildlife Science and Wildlife Ecology Chucked worked in the environmental field for several years before turning to a successful career in business in 1978. Upon "retirement", Chuck and his wife, Joyce, purchased the Palms at Pelican Cove hotel on St. Croix. With advice and support from SEA and other environmental professionals on St. Croix, they successfully went through the CZM process to gain approval for their plans to renovate and expand the hotel. Chuck and Joyce are residents of St. Croix and are working diligently to make this new venture a success. Chuck is eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to contribute to the environmentally responsible growth of the island.

Dr. Michael Henry
Michael is a graduate of St. Croix Central High School. He holds a doctorate in applied physics and has researched atomic, molecular and optical properties of inorganic crystals, organic dyes and biological materials. Presently, Michael is the Coordinator of the University of the Virgin Islands' Process Technology program, Visiting Associate Professor of Process Technology and teaches physics and biology at Central High School.

Kemit-Amon Lewis
Kemit was born and raised on St. Croix and graduated from Central High School. He received Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Marine Sciences from Savannah State University through NOAA's Living Marine Resource Cooperative Science Center at SSU. His research experience includes an analysis of the cyclical return patterns and nesting periods of leatherback sea turtles on Sandy Point, sea turtle interaction with the commercial fishing industry of the USVI and the most recent survey of the foraging population of green and hawksbill sea turtles in bays around St. Croix and St. Thomas. Upon returning home to the USVI, Kemit worked briefly with the V.I. Marine Advisory Service at UVI in St. Thomas before serving two years as the territorial Resource Ecologist of the V.I. Department of Planning and Natural Resources Division of Coastal Zone Management. Currently, Kemit is the Coral Conservation Manager for The Nature Conservancy's USVI office. In this role he manages the ARRA-funded Coral Restoration Program, which propagates threatened Elkhorn and Staghorn corals to be later used in territory-wide restoration efforts. He also coordinates the development of the V.I. Reef Resilience Program, an initiative designed to identify important local coral reefs in an effort to better protect and/or manage them. Kemit is also a part-time science instructor at the University of the Virgin Islands.

Ryan Smith
An avid hiker, scuba diver and outdoor enthusiast, Ryan has relished the opportunity to explore and connect with the vast wealth of natural beauty offered in both the terrestrial and marine environments of St. Croix. Over the past nine years Ryan and his wife Claudia, a US Fish and Wildlife Service biologist, have become staunch supporters of SEA and dedicated advocates for the protection of St. Croix's valuable natural resources. Ryan has become a veritable mainstay at public hearings involving environmental issues. He brings not only his technological expertise gained as a Senior Systems Analyst at HOVENSA but also a management perspective from his recently completed MBA from the University of Phoenix Online. Above all, Ryan brings an unbridled passion and commitment to protecting and preserving the unique ecology of St. Croix for generations to come.
